How Improv Benefits Business Leaders

There's a shift happening in business schools like Ashridge Executive Education and Cass Business School in the UK, as well as Duke University and Stanford University in the US. They're spicing up their curriculum with improv comedy. Why? Because in this whirlwind of a world where everything changes so quickly, they're prepping the next-gen leaders to roll with the punches.

According to author Mike Bonifer, improv is the tech of the 21st century because it enables one to be flexible and adaptable, to spot opportunities, and to let go of what isn't working.

The Many Benefits of Improv

Enhanced Creativity

Improv requires participants to think on their feet, come up with ideas on the spot, and build on the contributions of others. This fosters a creative mindset that can be applied to various aspects of life.

Increased Confidence

Performing in front of an audience without a script helps build confidence. The supportive environment of improv encourages individuals to take risks and embrace their creativity.

Better Communication

The "Yes, And..." principle in improv encourages active listening and effective communication. Participants learn to accept and build on each other's ideas, improving their interpersonal communication skills.

Improve Public Speaking

Improv helps individuals become more comfortable speaking in front of others. The experience of performing without a script and handling unexpected situations can translate into improved public speaking abilities.

Team Building

Stress Reduction

Engaging in improv can be a fun and lighthearted way to relieve stress. The focus on playfulness and humor can contribute to a positive and enjoyable experience.
